HEY, I'M JOSEPH!

I’ve been working as a professional illustrator for nearly 15 years, and while I proudly consider myself self-taught, my journey has been shaped by countless artists, books, and creative influences along the way. Over time, I’ve developed not only my craft but also a deep passion for teaching others the tools and techniques that helped me grow.

From my studio in northern Ohio, shared with more than a few cats. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of the industry’s biggest names. My work includes projects with comic publishers like Image, Dark Horse, and Valiant, as well as with major publishers such as Random House, Penguin, and Insight Editions.

My specialty lies in ink. With nothing more than nibs, pens, and brushes, I focus on capturing rich detail, dramatic contrast, and emotional depth, using the timeless beauty of black and white. Ink has always been my creative weapon of choice, and it continues to challenge and inspire me.

That’s why I created Illustrative Inking, a beginner-friendly course designed to open this world to anyone curious about it. I’ll guide you step by step through choosing the right tools, mastering techniques, and building expressive illustrations. Together, we’ll explore how simplicity, discipline, and creativity in ink can transform the way you draw.
